 ABSTRACT

The incessant increase in the rate of crime, hooliganism, cultism and other anti-social behaviours in the society led to this research work. A number of field work have been carried out and solutions preferred but not much efforts have been made by the family, the school and the government in this aspects. This study is an attempt to investigate absence of moral instructions in public schools and its effects on adolescents to drugs. Youths are the country’s asset and future teachers. The need to guide their moral behaviours into adulthood and make them see reasons to live together in peace, care for one another and to be able to face challenges in life calls for this research work.

The study adopted Student Questionnaire (SQ) to obtain relevant data from respondents. A descriptive survey design was used for this study. One hundred students from four secondary schools inAkoko South West Area ofOndo state were purposively selected for the study. Data were analyzed using simple percentage.

The result of the analysis revealed that there is an high level of students’ awareness of moral instructions. Also, there is a significant difference between adolescents who are not addicted to drug. There is difference in moral behaviour of adolescents who take alcohol and those who do not take alcohol. There is a significant difference in smoking behaviour of adolescent who are opportuned to moral instruction and those who are not.

From the findings, it would be safe to recommend that government should as a matter of urgency educate and enlighten the youths and the adolescents of the various bad habits that can lead them to problem and the society at large.
